There are conversations that only happen when the noise dies away.

Not across a conference table. Not from behind a lectern. Not through another social media post. But in comfortable chairs, over an unhurried drink, around an open Bible, with men who are willing to tell the truth.

The Whiskey Room is not really a room. It is a circle of men who have decided to leave titles at the door, speak honestly, listen carefully, laugh freely, pray openly, and discover that they were never meant to carry life’s burdens alone.

We have been privileged to meet in some remarkable places — from a quiet whiskey room in Charleston to a courtyard in Belfast — but the room is never the point. The point is brotherhood. Wherever men gather in the name of Christ, open the Scriptures, and make time for one another, a Whiskey Room can happen.

In Charleston we currently gather at Henry’s on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month under C. S. Lewis’s invitation to “Come Further Up, Come Further In.” We have also gathered elsewhere and expect to do so increasingly.

Not for another meeting. For brotherhood. For formation. For Scripture. For prayer. For the kind of conversations that shape husbands, fathers, sons, friends, pastors, entrepreneurs, public servants and leaders.

Every city needs a Whiskey Room. Perhaps not with oak barrels or shelves of fine single malts. But certainly with comfortable chairs, open Bibles, trusted friends, and enough time to ask one another the questions that really matter.

Wherever you live, find your Whiskey Room. If one doesn’t exist, perhaps God is calling you to create one — and we would love to help.

We are also developing The Whiskey Room Bible Study as a resource so that others can begin the same rhythm of Scripture, friendship and prayer in their own cities, churches and neighbourhoods.

The Whiskey Room is a ministry of presence before it is a programme; of friendship before strategy; of prayer before action.
